The City of Hickory, North Carolina is located along the Catawba River at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located along I-40 between Asheville and Charlotte, attractions include fine restaurants and taverns, outdoor adventures on Lake Hickory, downtown restaurants and shopping, hotels, and the Hickory Metro Convention Center special events venue.

Hickory is home to Catawba Valley Community College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, the Hickory Crawdads minor league baseball team, many city parks, lake access to Lake Hickory, and the Hickory Motor Speedway. The downtown SALT Block features a planetarium and science center, and the Symphony and Choral Society.

The Hickory Trail, when completed, will span 10 miles across the city and will include the City Walk, Riverwalk, Aviation Walk, Historic Ridgeview Walk, and Olle Art Walk. Hickory celebrated the grand opening of the City Walk section in December 2021.
